RE: Inks Lake State Park - Burnet, Texas

cgaskin,
Thanks for sharing the photo's of Inks Lake. We go to the coast each year and try to stop at another park on the way back to Midland for a few days. Like our SP in TX. This one would be good with DH having a fishing kayak that he takes to the coast. Looks like some of the campsites would be walking distance with the kayak. He has made a set of wheels to pull it with after I refused to help carrier it.
Sharon
Sharon,
Yeah, almost all the sites are within walking distance to the lake. I used a set of wheels for my kayak as well.

This is a great place to stay. Enjoy!

RE: Forest River Cherokee 29Z

We own a Forest River Cherokee 28A+. We bought it last October (2007 model) and we love it. We have had very good luck and no real problems so far.

RE: Inks Lake State Park - Burnet, Texas

We also love Inks Lake. We actually traveled there in Feb.'07 which was great because there were not many people there. We spent the days hiking. My children were 3 and 7 at the time and they had a blast. We went to the caverns too. I would recommend them if you like caves. We went to Dangerfield and Lake Bob Sandlin SP for Spring Break. You should check them out! See you on the road! QT2
Never been to either of those parks, I will definitely check them out. Do you have any photos from your stay there? If so, I would definitely like to see them.

RE: Inks Lake State Park - Burnet, Texas

We've stayed at Inks Lake a couple of time and have enjoyed the park each time. We now prefer Canyon of the Eagles since it has full hookups. So glad you had a nice time.
We just returned from an 8 day trip to Petit Jean State Park in Arkansas. It is indeed a beautiful area of the state.
Chuck and Terry,
I enjoyed your web site. Nice job there. We are new to RVing and always enjoy reviews and photos of other Texas campgrounds.

Inks Lake State Park - Burnet, Texas

Hello Everyone...
We just spent a great Memorial Day weekend at Inks Lake State Park in Burnet, Texas. It is located on Inks Lake in the Texas hill country. It is a great family oriented state park.
Check out my review and photos of the park:

RE: Close to New TT/TV Decision

bluwtr49>>>so if she wants a new TT, I get a new TV
Yeah, right on! My kind of logic! My kind of argument with my wife! I rarely win ... but it's always worth trying.
Why not also try "so if you want a new TT, I get a new TT and a 60 inch LCD"
However, I agree with HighCover ... I think you will regret not getting a 3/4 ton truck. Made a world of different when I upgraded from a 1500 Suburban to a 2500HD.
I understand what you are saying. However you have to consider the percentage of time you are towing vs not towing. In my case, towing is less than 15% of my driving. The other 85% is a daily commute back and forth to work since my TV is also my daily commuting vehicle. Daily drive MPG and ride quality rate higher than towing my trailer a little slower 15% of the time. If you don't have money to burn, then these factors have to be considered.
If I were a full timer or towing more than 50% of the time, I would agree.

RE: Close to New TT/TV Decision

I believe you will be fine. Was in a similiar situation late last year as my Forest River Cherokee has a dry weight of 5800 lbs and I went with the 2008 Ford F150 SuperCrew with the 5.4L engine. It has a towing capacity of 9500 lbs. Plus it gets better gas mileage when not towing than the Hemi.
Towing at 60MHP I consistently get 10 to 11 miles per gallon.

RE: Remote Rear View Camera

Here is a installation that I have looked at several times, and really like. I hope to do the same with my RV in the near future. The camera and hook up seem to be ideal for you needs. I can't take credit for it. You can also find quite a bit of information with a search.

Remote Rear View Camera

I would like to attach a remote review camera to the rear of my travel trailer and have a small LCD display in side my truck. Can anyone recommend such a product?
Thanks,

RE: Big Bend National Park

Chris, no we haven't made Davis Mountain yet - gotta have some reason to keep going back your way. Sorry for the broken up post, I'm having trouble linking a couple of the photos we took while in BB but will try to get some tech help from my daughter when she comes in for Mother's Day dinner.
On this trip we came out I-40 for an overnighter in Palo Duro SP then west to Guadalupe Mountain NP for a week before heading down to BB. This was our first trip to GUMO - different from Big Bend but a beautiful area we'll be visiting again. If you're ever up that way, I'd recommend the Dog Canyon campground over the one at the Park HQ. Its much more remote (we like that) and borders Lincoln National Forest which has some awesome hikes and drives. Be sure to visit Sitting Bull Falls in LNF.
Al
Al, thanks for the information. We have been thinking about going to Palo Duro SP but will probably hold off on that until next year. My work schedule is pretty hectic so we are probably down to just weekend trips for the rest of the year.
Another great area of Texas if you get a chance is down around Concan, Texas on the Nueces or Frio rivers. Very pretty. We stayed out near Campwood, Texas last year.
Travel safe!!

RE: Cherokee 26K

We have an '07 Cherokee 28A+. We bought it last October and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I had a few minor issues after my first 2 trips and my dealer quickly dealt with them. I currently have an issue with a stabilizer jack but nothing that a new Cotter Pin won't fix.

Fort Davis State Park - Texas

While we were out in west Texas visiting Big Bend National Park, we also decided to visit Fort Davis State Park in the Davis Mountains. It is only about 2 hours north of Big Bend and well worth the drive.
The scenery there is beautiful and the state park outstanding. We had a great time. Hiking and mountain biking opportunities are great.
If you want more details on the trip and to see some photos, click here (thegaskins.dyndns.org).
Enjoy!

RE: Big Bend National Park

We spent 45 days on the road beginning Feb. 27/08. We planned for BBNP being the highlight of our trip and it lived up to expectations. We camped five nights in RGV, did some hiking and a one day canoe trip. It is a fabulous park. Photos do not do it justice at all. It has to be visited to be appreciated.
Excellent. I wish I had the time to do a 45 day trip. Sounds nice. I agree with your comments about pictures. We have told so many of our fiends the same thing. You have to visit Big Bend to fully appreciate it.

RE: Big Bend National Park

Thanks for sharing the pictures and trip report. We're envious of the great camping opportunities available in your area and Big Bend is at the top. Cindy and I were there a week or so behind you and really enjoyed our visit. BB is such a land of contrasts. The yellow Columbine shot was taken at the Cattail Canyon Spring and the Ocotillo on the hike in.

Did you get a chance to go to Davis Mountains State Park? It is only 2 hours north of Big Bend? Great place. I'll try to finish my trip report on it and post it soon.
Also, we used to live in Cary, North Carolina so I know where Tarboro is. North Carolina is a beautiful place as well, but I agree with you there are far more camping areas in Central Texas.
Thanks for the comments.
